Summary
Firstdata Research Consultants Limited (https://firstdata.co.ke) is a multidisciplinary consulting firm in the areas of research, ICT and data analytics systems. We have been engaged by UNICEF Kenya to conduct an End of Project Assessment of the KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE, BELIEFS AND PRACTICE SURVEYS ON COVID-19 AMONGST CROSS-BORDER POPULATIONS IN WAJIR COUNTY project that was implemented in the cross-border communities of DIFF and DADAJABULLA WARDS in Wajir County (See map è https://firstdata.co.ke/wajir-diff-kap-survey-households.html ). The data collection exercise for the proposed evaluation will take place beginning 1st Week of November 2022. We are therefore seeking to recruit High Calibre Data Enumerators who will be tasked with collecting a mix of qualitative and quantitative data through observations and by doing interviews in the assigned locations. Further details will be provided to the pre-qualified candidates.
Duties and Responsibilities
Working under the leadership of the core team of consultants, the enumerators will be responsible for the following:
- QUALITATIVE LOT OF ENUMERATORS (4pax for Diff and 4 Pax for Dadajabulla): Conduct qualitative data collection which will include running focus group discussions (FGDs), conducting key informant interviews (KIIs); audio recording and generating text transcripts from the FGDs and KIIs using MS-Word.
- The KIIs will target the following groups of informants: CHVs, Health workers, Religious leaders, Teachers, ECD Caregivers, Service providers, Administrators and School heads.
- The FGDs will target the following groups of informants: Community members comprising of Adult men separately, Adult women separately, Adolescent girls in school (separately), Adolescent girls out of school (separately), Adolescent boys in school (separately), and Adolescent boys out of school (separately)
- QUANTITATIVE LOT OF ENUMERATORS (5pax for Diff and 5 Pax for Dadajabulla): Conduct household level data collection which will entail one-on-one interviews with caregivers comprising of 50% mothers and 50% fathers with allocations per enumerator being located on per-village basis. Preferences will be given to those with geographical knowledge of the targeted villages (especially natives).
- IMPORTANT: Interview sessions will last not more than 15 minutes per household and MUST BE DONE IN SOMALI Persons not able to fluently communicate in English-to-Somali and Somali-to-English should not apply.
Enumerator Requirements / Skills / Qualifications.
- Relevant Post-secondary school training of Post-primary school training with evidence in community development engagements
- Previous experience in research work will be an added advantage.
- Applicants must show evidence that they are natives of Wajir County and knowledge of geography of their preferred Ward of study (Diff / Dadajabulla).
- Quantitative Lot: Availability for 3 days training in Wajir Town in mid-October followed by 5 days of fieldwork.
- Qualitative Lot: Availability for 2 days training in Wajir Town in mid-October followed by 5 days of fieldwork.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Fluency in spoken and written English / Kiswahili/ Somali a Must.
- Previous experience in use of KoboCollect mobile data application and transcription of field notes from interviews will be highly desirable (though not mandatory)
- Be in possession of a working laptop for the entire 15 days of training + work (mandatory for Qualitative Enumerators Lot).
